The City of Campbell hosted our Annual Great American Litter Pickup on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Campbell Park. Approximately 200 volunteers worked in groups to complete the work, which included picking up 38 bags of garbage, 11 bags of recycling and two shopping carts. Volunteers also moved 100 yards of fibar, 10 yards of sand, and 10 yards of gold fines.
The Youth Commission, Archbishop Mitty Interact club, and representatives of Delphi Academy handled the event registration, handing out t-shirts, and directing people to the gloves and grapplers. They made the entire process run smoothly.
Volunteers from the Campbell Parks and Recreation Foundation, along with the Home Church provided the refreshments and water.
Our cleanup focused on:
Litter pickup along the Los Gatos Creek Trail
Litter pickup at the County Park, Perk Ponds, and along the railroad tracks adjacent to Winchester Boulevard at Hacienda Avenue
Litter pickup and brush removal along the railroad tracks behind Rolling Hills Middle School
Planting trees at Campbell Park and behind the Service Center near the Avalon Apartment Complex
Hauling and spreading playground fibar and sand at Campbell Park.
Refreshments of fresh fruit, donuts, coffee, and water were provided throughout the event and were donated by Whole Foods, Safeway, and Starbucks. The volunteers worked so hard and fast, the event concluded early with pizza party at 11:30 a.m.
Many local merchants along with Keep California Beautiful, Inc. have been a proud sponsor of this event for the past fourteen years.
