As part of the Budget Correction Strategy for fiscal year 2010/2011, the City of Campbell implemented a mandatory furlough program for employees.

On Friday, September 3rd, most non-public safety City employees will observe a mandatory unpaid furlough day and most City offices will be closed. 9-1-1 Emergency Services will remain available all day and the Police Department Business Office will be open during normal business hours. In addition, Recreation classes scheduled for September 3rd will take place and the Heritage Theatre Box Office will be open.

On Monday, September 6th, the City of Campbell will be closed for Labor Day. Although the Police department business office will be closed for routine business matters, police officers and dispatchers will be available to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

Budget Situation (updated 8-10)
The City of Campbell has struggled with budget issues for most of the past decade and has made significant cuts over that period. Despite the successful passage of Measure O in November, 2008, the economic downturn - which has been longer and deeper than anyone could have imagined - has taken a dramatic toll on City finances. On February 22, 2010 the City Council held a study session to get an update on the budget and future projections. The report (936kb pdf) notes that revenues were more than $2 million below budgeted numbers and outlines a process for addressing the problem, including community meetings (20kb pdf) held in March.

On April 27, the City Manager released his recommended Budget Correction Strategy (144kb pdf) with more than 130 specific budget adjustments. The City Council held a several-hour public study session on the Strategy on May 4 and endorsed the plan with only minor changes. The FY 11 budget, including the elements of the Budget Correction Strategy, was formally introduced at the June 15 Council meeting and adopted on June 29. The Council also provided direction to staff to prepare language for possible revenue measures related to the Transient Occupancy Tax and Business License Tax to be on the November, 2010 ballot. On August 3, the Council authorized placing the two measures on the ballot (designated as Measures M and N).

E. Campbell Avenue Improvement Project: Update (07-15-10)

On Tuesday, July 20th, Jones Brothers (bridge contractor) will be bringing in two 80 foot long concrete box girders to be placed on the north side of the Campbell Avenue bridge. In order to accomplish this work, two cranes will be set up on each end of the bridge to lift and place the girders. The room needed to safely complete the work will require the use of both westbound lanes of Campbell Avenue at the bridge. Westbound Campbell Avenue traffic will be diverted onto the no. 2 lane in the eastbound direction, and eastbound Campbell Avenue traffic will be restricted to the no. 1 lane of eastbound Campbell Avenue. Traffic control will be set up to safely guide vehicles and pedestrians through the work area.  The traffic control will be in place starting at 8:00am and lanes will be restored by 4:00pm.  There maybe slight delays on Campbell Avenue during this time.  Please continue to observe all traffic control signs in the area.
