Water Main Construction on Campbell Avenue (Updated 02/3/2010)
San Jose Water Company’s Contractor, Lewis and Tibbets, will be performing waterline replacement work during the months of January/February on East Campbell Avenue from Railway Avenue to the Highway 17 undercrossing. The Campbell/Railway intersection may be closed at various times and traffic diverted, but access to the downtown businesses will be maintained on Campbell Avenue. Lane closures will also be necessary at certain times during this work to complete the construction. The hours of work will be 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Inclement weather may lengthen the number of construction days required to complete the work. Traffic delays may occur. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

For questions, please contact the Public Works Department at (408) 866-2150.

Once the application has been approved by the Building Division, fees associated with the permit can be paid via credit card, and the permit printed, all without having to come to City Hall, saving you time and helping make Campbell a "Green City".

The City's Fiscal Challenge
The City of Campbell has struggled with budget issues for several years and made significant cuts – about $4 million in adjustments over the past five years, including functioning with approximately 10% fewer employees. Due to projected ongoing budget shortfalls of about $2 million, the City initiated an outreach effort early 2008 to hear from residents. A dozen presentations were made; more than 330 people filled out feedback surveys.

The City Council discussed options last Summer on how to move forward and voted unanimously to place a revenue measure on the ballot. Campbell voters approved Measure O by a 70% margin on November 4. The new tax rate will take effect April 1, 2009. The State's temporary sales tax increase will also be effective on that date.
